How to Convert a DXF File to USDZ on Mac

The DXF (Drawing Exchange Format) is an Autodesk CAD format used in architecture, engineering, and industrial design to exchange technical drawings. Converting DXF to USDZ lets you view your 3D models in augmented reality directly on iPhone, iPad, or Apple Vision Pro.

Why Convert DXF to USDZ?

Convert DXF to USDZ with Eyemesh

Step 1 — Open the DXF File

Launch Eyemesh and open your DXF file: drag and drop the file into the window, or use File > Open (Cmd+O). DXF files generally contain pure geometry with no textures.

Step 2 — Check the Model

Inspect your model in the 3D view. Check that textures and materials display correctly. If textures are missing, use the Texture Manager to reassign them manually.

Step 3 — Export to USDZ

Click the export icon in the toolbar, select the USDZ format, choose a save location, and confirm. The USDZ file is ready — you can send it via AirDrop to an iPhone or embed it on a website.

What Is the DXF Format?

DXF (Drawing Exchange Format) is an open format created by Autodesk for exchanging technical drawings between CAD applications. It supports 2D and 3D entities including lines, polylines, 3D faces, and meshes. It is the standard interoperability format between AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, and other design tools.

What Is the USDZ Format?

USDZ is a 3D archive format developed by Apple in collaboration with Pixar. It packages a USD file with all its textures into a single uncompressed file. It is natively supported by iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and visionOS for augmented reality display via AR Quick Look.

Download Eyemesh on the Mac App Store and convert your DXF files to USDZ in just a few clicks.
