You have an .obj, .fbx or .stl file to look at. You search for a way to open it on your Mac, and every answer points to the same place: install Blender. So you download a full 3D creation suite, wait through the install, launch it, and land in an interface built for people who model and animate for a living. All you wanted was to see the model.
Blender is excellent software, and this article is not an argument against it. It is an argument about fit. An authoring tool and a viewer solve different problems. Here is how to tell which one you need, and how to view 3D files on macOS without installing Blender at all.
Blender is free, open source, and imports most common 3D formats. That combination makes it the default recommendation in forums and search results, whatever the question happens to be. And it is genuinely the right answer when you need to change something in the file.
The problem is that macOS offers almost no middle ground. QuickLook handles Apple's own USD family natively, and past that the ecosystem jumps straight to professional authoring suites. There is a wide gap between I need to see this file and I need to model, rig and render. Most people fall into that gap.

For all of that, Blender is free, deeply capable and backed by a large community. Nothing here replaces it, and if your work involves creating 3D rather than receiving it, Blender is where you should be.

If you look at 3D files a few times a month, the maths favours Blender. If you look at them several times a week, it does not.

Eyemesh renders materials and textures, and its material view lets you inspect them one by one. A model that arrives untextured usually means the texture files were not shipped alongside it, which is a packaging problem rather than a viewer problem.
A viewer only has to display geometry, not hold an editable scene graph in memory, so it generally handles heavy meshes more comfortably than a full authoring suite on the same machine.
