The story behind Pagira
“I bought a bundle of HTML and PDF magazines, no iPad app displayed them properly, so I solved it myself.”
I bought a batch of old magazines, delivered as HTML and PDF. One folder per issue, with its stylesheets, its images, its scripts and its subfolders. On a Mac, a double click was enough.
On an iPad, nothing worked. The reader apps showed raw HTML, with no layout and no images, when they did not simply lose the links between pages. The only reliable method was to run a local web server, which makes no sense when you want to read in an armchair.
That is what I wrote Pagira for: opening a complete site folder on iPhone and iPad, the way it was designed, offline, with no server and without sending anything anywhere.
